Why NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback?
The demands of life require a flexible brain. There are various draws on our attention and energy throughout the course of a day, including routine stressors as well as unresolved trauma. When we have a stressed nervous system – evidenced by problems with attention, anxiety, low energy, problems sleeping, and physical symptoms, our brain is less flexible to deal with challenges. NeurOptimal® neurofeedback can help.
Who Can Benefit from NeurOptimal®?
People who use NeurOptimal® neurofeedback can experience benefits in many areas of life. NeurOptimal® is designed to support the central nervous system – the hub of all functions of the human body. Therefore, a person can experience relief, no matter their symptoms. Clients with a wide range of challenges have had successful outcomes, including: ADHD, Autism Spectrum, Anxiety, Academic challenges, Depression, Problems with sleep, Addiction, Dementia, Pain, Headaches/Migraines, Concussions, Chronic illness, Mental and physical performance.
How Does NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback Work?
NeurOptimal® is a type of EEG (Electroencephalogram), which is a method of detecting electrical activity. The brain has different kinds of electrical waves including alpha, beta, theta, delta, and gamma waves. When there are too many or too few of any particular wave, the brain is not functioning optimally. The dysfunction in electrical activity can cause a variety of symptoms such as anxiety, difficultly sleeping, ADD/ADHD, among many others.
NeurOptimal® monitors your brainwaves and notifies your central nervous system when it is not functioning optimally. NeurOptimal® is a non-linear system, meaning it responds to what is happening in your brain moment by moment. When the electrical activity of your brain shows signs of turbulence, the music within the NeurOptimal® system briefly pauses. This pause in the music gives your nervous system the message that it is operating inefficiently, allowing it to make corrections. This is non-invasive. There is no treatment being delivered, therefore, you cannot be harmed by NeurOptimal® neurofeedback.
What Happens in a NeurOptimal® Session?
BEFORE: Your neurofeedback technician will ask you to complete a short questionnaire to gather information about your symptoms and assess your goals. This is to track the progress of these symptoms alongside the NeurOptimal® neurofeedback training. Next, the technician will attach small sensors near your scalp and on your ears, which will measure the electrical activity in your brain. You will then be given earbuds and your technician will make sure you are comfortable.
DURING: The technician will begin the training program for you, and all you need to do is rest while you listen to the soothing music that plays through the earbuds. During this time, NeurOptimal® will detect any dysfunctions in brain electrical activity. You may hear brief pauses in the music while you are resting. These interruptions in the music offer the brain the information it needs to reorganize itself to function more optimally. Each session lasts 33 minutes. Many people feel very relaxed during their training sessions, and some even fall asleep. The NeurOptimal® works whether you are awake or asleep. Some people feel more restless initially and may even having a very busy mind. All of this is normal. You cannot do this wrong. Children often want to play on a tablet or phone during their session, which is perfectly fine. When the music stops, the technician removes the sensors and your session is complete.
AFTER: Following your NeurOptimal® training session, you may notice some subtle shifts in your emotional state, energy, sleep, and/or focus. You may also notice subtle shift in performance. Changes vary from person to person and from session to session. It is difficult to predict how you will feel after a NeurOptimal® session because everyone’s brain takes varying amounts of time to demonstrate improved functioning. NeurOptimal® is non-intrusive and therefore causes an unconscious change in the workings of the brain, which can take some time to detect.
How Often Should I Come?
At the start of your brain training program, we recommend weekly or biweekly visits. Just like learning a new skill, or getting in physical shape, a regular commitment can boost the benefits of the training and can strengthen your brain. The more you train, the better your brain fitness.
How Can I Tell It’s Helping?
Very often, clients notice benefits from the NeurOptimal® neurofeedback quickly, within a session or two. At most, it may take six sessions for some clients to detect positive shifts. How can you tell it’s helping?
Feeling calmer, more at ease, and less reactive.
Feeling more rested.
Having more clarity.
More positive interactions with others and improved relationships.
More flexible and resilient with challenges.
Bouncing back after difficulties more quickly.
Improvement in other symptoms.

“Neurofeedback was a welcomed calm in the midst of some pretty tumultuous waves of stress and overwhelming feelings. After a session I felt renewed in my ability to approach demanding responsibilities and to be more present and centered towards my time with my children.”
“I had a great experience with neurofeedback at Mindi’s. Although I consider myself a pretty experienced meditater with good stress management skills, I was really impressed with how different I felt after just one session. I felt much more grounded and I slept significantly better than normal.”
“I had been struggling for almost a year with negative thoughts every morning when I woke up. After my first session of NF I woke up the next morning with the same negative emotions, but this time I was able to sort them out in my mind thereby stopping the negative spiral. Even just after the session I was feeling more refreshed and I was able to face my life again, but this time with a noticeably more positive outlook.”
“I’ve had the opportunity to try neurofeedback with Mindi and felt really relaxed. The office environment was warm and welcoming which helped to put me instantly at ease. And Mindi is always very warm and kind so working with her is always easy and such a joy! If you can try it, I say go for it!”
